LeeAnna Yater was born in Carmel, California and raised in South Florida. After graduating with an BFA in Interior Design at Western Carolina University she was employed as an Interior Designer for several years with Broyhill Furniture in Lenoir, NC and then moved to Little & Associates Architects in Charlotte, NC. She established an interest in the fiber arts and began to weave and design textiles while attending programs that included: Penland School of Crafts, John C. Campbell Folk School, and Arrowmont to name a few. Yater then decided to return to graduate school where she received a Master of Fine Arts at Winthrop University in South Carolina. Yater continues to explore fiber art and photography-digital imagery and has exhibited her artwork throughout Florida, the Carolinas, Georgia, New York, and Washington D.C.
Yater began to teach art & design in the Carolinas and fill commissions and while there she acquired an interesting commission to create the art for two Hot air balloons. Test flying the balloons in France, Italy, and Switzerland was a definite perk.
A need to be near her family brought her back to Florida where she has lived most of her life. She taught art and Interior Design at Palm Beach Community College, Lynn University and Florida Atlantic University. For the past 11 years she has taught at Broward College, where she teaches Color & Composition, 2-D Design, and Art Appreciation. Yater’s public art interests have included: an 8x10 handmade tile mural, tables, and ceramic tile wall art for Broward College. Her most recent venture in public art included her position as an Allied Artist for Dan Corson selected for the Broward County Cultural Division’s 30 year anniversary Laser Light sculpture in downtown Ft. Lauderdale.
Yater continues to work in fiber appliqué & stitch. Since moving back to Florida she has exhibited her art with the Broward Art Guild, the Lee Wagener Art Gallery at the Ft. Lauderdale airport, Florida Atlantic University, Broward College Adjunct Exhibitions , Borders Books, Art serve, Uncommon Gallery, Artist Eye Gallery, Art Fusion Galleries at the Miami Design district and most recently with the artists “Doing Business As…” Artist Entrepreneurs at Gallery 6 and Gallery 101 in Ft. Lauderdale.
